The
State
of Florida
is home
to over
8,500
Armenian
families,
numbering
between
18,000
to 25,000.
According
to the 2000
US Census,
Florida
ranks
the
6th
state
(after
CA,
NY,
MA,
NJ,
MI)
with
the
largest
Armenian-speaking
population.
The
first
Armenians
arrived
in Florida,
particularily
in South
Florida, in
the
mid
1910's.
Although
there
were
very
few
Armenians
between
1914
and
1930,
the
small
South
Florida
community
held
their
first
services
on the
shores
of Miami
Beach
in the
1930's.
What
started
with
a small
group
of newly
established
Armenians
on the
shores
of South
Florida
continues
today
and
tomorrow
with
our
children
and
their
children.
As others
cities
in Florida grew, so did the Armenian population, and the need for a church was
soon recognized. The Armenian community in Florida has never been as ambitious
as they
are
today.
With
four
already
built
Armenian
churches,
there
are
five
planned
for
the
upcoming
years,
among them
two
are planned
for
construction
this
year!
